Honey

Bobbi Brown Honey Crushed Shine Jelly StickBobbi Brown Honey Crushed Shine Jelly Stick ($29.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, light-medium brown with moderate, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. The texture felt more yielding than others in the range, which resulted in a more emollient feel on my lips but not enough that it felt too slippery.

It had semi-sheer color payoff in one layer, which built up to medium coverage with a second layer. It wore well for two and a half hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.1 oz. - $290.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "sheer, moisture-packed color" that yields a "popsicle tint" with a "soft shine finish." The formula felt like a more emollient version of their Crushed Lip Color, as it was more yielding but still not as emollient in feel going on as one might expect. It was rather balm-like, thin but not clingy, and didn't slide around too much.

They had sheer to semi-sheer, tinted color that did look "popsicle" like with some of the mid-depth and deeper shades. For the most part, the colors applied evenly, smoothly without tugging, and didn't emphasize my lip texture or catch on imperfections. They wore between two and four hours and were lightly hydrating.

Papaya

Bobbi Brown Papaya Crushed Shine Jelly StickBobbi Brown Papaya Crushed Shine Jelly Stick ($29.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark orange-red with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. The texture felt lightweight, smooth, and had more of a light glide as it delivered an even layer of sheer coverage over my lips, but it never felt that emollient or creamy.

This shade was less flattering than others, though not in a way that was actually noticeable in person. It stayed on decently for three hours and felt lightly hydrating while worn.

Lilac

Bobbi Brown Lilac Crushed Shine Jelly StickBobbi Brown Lilac Crushed Shine Jelly Stick ($29.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen. It appeared warmer on my lips, though obviously it may look different from person to person as it had sheerer coverage (as intended).

The consistency was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and had just enough glide that it didn’t tug on my lips during application. It had sheer to semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation that lasted for three hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Lantern Light

Bobbi Brown Lantern Light Luxe Metal Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a light, rosy copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a lightly creamy consistency that was thin, lightly tacky (so adhered and stayed in place better) but comfortable to apply and to wear. This shade lasted nicely for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Ingredients

Polybutene, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Polyethylene, Microcrystalline WaxCera MicrocristallinaCire Microcristalline, Dipentaerythrityl Hexahydroxystearate, Octyldodecanol, Dicalcium Phosphate, WaterAquaEau, Alumina, Tin Oxide, Silica, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Aluminum Calcium Sodium Silicate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Alcohol, Fragrance (Parfum), Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, [+/- Mica, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Iron Oxides (Ci 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Bronze Powder (Ci 77400), Carmine (Ci 75470), Copper Powder (Ci 77400), Manganese Violet (Ci 77742), Orange 5 (Ci 45370), Red 6 (Ci 15850), Red 7 (Ci 15850), Red 21 (Ci 45380), Red 27 (Ci 45410), Red 7 Lake (Ci 15850), Red 22 Lake (Ci 45380), Red 28 Lake (Ci 45410), Red 30 Lake (Ci 73360), Red 33 Lake (Ci 17200), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (Ci 15985)]

Firecracker

Bobbi Brown Firecracker Luxe Metal Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a brighter, medium red base with warmer, more orange undertones paired with larger red flecks of sparkle and micro-glitter. It felt more textured as I applied it, so those who are sensitive to that may want to skip this as the base wasn’t substantial or thick enough to camouflage the texture of the sparkles.

It had semi-sheer color coverage that looked more medium to semi-opaque in person due to all the sparkle content. The lipstick felt thin with moderate creaminess, which resulted in a bit of product settling into my lip lines. It stayed on well for four and a half hours but had some migration of sparkles after five hours of wear. The formula felt lightly hydrating over time.

Red Fortune

Bobbi Brown Red Fortune Luxe Metal Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep red with subtle, warmer undertones and fine red and gold pearl. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage that adhered well to my lips and didn’t emphasize my lip texture or lip lines. The lipstick had a lightly creamy consistency that was slightly dense in the tube but not to the point where it dragged on my lips during application. It wore well for five hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Candy Apple

Bobbi Brown Candy Apple Crushed Shine Jelly StickBobbi Brown Candy Apple Crushed Shine Jelly Stick ($29.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, pinky-red that looked almost more pink-coral when applied paired with a soft shine. It had sheer to semi-sheer color coverage that was buildable to medium coverage, which was as described.

The texture was a lightweight, thin balm that had a touch of slip but was less emollient than one might expect, though it didn’t tug during application. It wore well for three and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Tahiti

Bobbi Brown Tahiti Crushed Shine Jelly StickBobbi Brown Tahiti Crushed Shine Jelly Stick ($29.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage that built up to medium with a second layer. The product had a smooth, more gliding consistency that didn’t feel that wet but rather a little firm in the tube, but as the product adhered to my lips, it felt a little emollient. This shade stayed on well for three hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Leo (93)

Sephora Leo (93) Lipstories LipstickSephora Leo (93) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep berry with cool undertones and a satin finish. The texture felt smooth, more velvety and somewhat dense (without being too firm), which applied comfortably across my lips in a single pass. It had rich color payoff that adhered evenly to my lips and stayed in place well for six hours. The formula felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$8.00/0.14 oz. - $57.14 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "lightweight" with "full-coverage color in one swipe." The majority of shades were pigmented with semi-opaque to full color payoff in a single layer, as described. The more shimmery shades tended to be a bit sheerer overall, while the mattes and creams were usually closer to opaque in coverage.

The textures were typically creamy, lightweight, and not too thin or too thick on the lips, so they were comfortable to apply and to wear. There were some shades where the color pulled into my deeper lip lines upon application, and it was more or less noticeable just depending on the color and finish of the particular.

Some shades seemed hydrating and others were non-drying. They lasted anywhere from three to over six hours on me. There was a subtle, sweet, fruity scent (I couldn't detect it on, just in the tube), and I haven't noticed any taste after wearing them.

Virgo (94)

Sephora Virgo (94) Lipstories LipstickSephora Virgo (94) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, peachy coral with moderate, warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly across my lips, but there was subtle streaking along the outer edge of my lips and color in my deeper lip lines that was visible in the close-up photo.

Thankfully, neither were noticeable in person (from a normal viewing distance). The consistency had a fair amount of slip, which was the likely culprit, though it was comfortable to wear. It lasted for three hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Libra (95)

Sephora Libra (95) Lipstories LipstickSephora Libra (95) Lipstories Lipstick ($8.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium-dark, plummy-brown base with flecks of copper and gold pearl throughout. The consistency felt smooth, lightweight, and had moderate slip without being too slippery, so it had decent adhesion but was still very comfortable to apply and to wear. It had opaque color coverage that applied evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip texture. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Crystal Happikiss

Charlotte Tilbury Crystal Happikiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Crystal Happikiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a light-medium pink with moderate, warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy finish. It had sheer coverage–and this one shade was described as sheer, hurrah!–with a moderately dense, thicker consistency that had good adhesion to my lips. Despite looking incredibly wet-looking on, it didn’t slide around and hugged my lips comfortably. It wore well for three hours and felt hydrating over time.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$34.00/0.08 oz. - $425.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be hydrating and help lips look smoother while having a "high-shine finish with medium coverage." It had a denser, thicker consistency with light tackiness that didn't feel heavy, but it was thicker than most lip product son the market. The shades tended to have mostly opaque to opaque color coverage rather than "medium coverage."

The finish was exceptionally shiny, and it did give the illusion of plumper lips. Whether the product looked smoothing depended on the shade as some were more flattering to wear than others. They lasted between three and five hours, were hydrating, and didn't feather/bleed on me despite being a creamier, more emollient consistency; they seemed to adhere better than a true lip balm, but they were still comfortable to wear. The formula had a subtle, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Worth noting, the packaging used thinner plastic and was much lighter-weight (to the point of feeling a little flimsy) compared to other Charlotte Tilbury lip products. It also has a clicking, twist-up mechanism that doesn't lalow for the product to be twist back into the tube, so take care when twisting product out for use. I'm guessing that the more balm-like formula needed that type of mechanism in order not to break at the base.

Enchanting Kiss

Charlotte Tilbury Enchanting Kiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Enchanting Kiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a brighter, medium pink-coral with moderate, warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which was slightly more coverage than marketed, that applied somewhat evenly.

The texture was thicker and denser in the tube, so it didn’t glide on as comfortably as anticipated–more like a potted lip balm in that respect than a typical tube-style lip balm! It could have sat more flatteringly on my lips, too, though it seemed to look marginally better after two hours of wear. It stayed on nicely for four hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Happipetal

Charlotte Tilbury Happipetal Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Happipetal Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark orange-coral with strong, warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy cream finish. The texture was thicker, slightly denser, and this resulted in a heavier look that was easy to over-apply.

It didn’t have as much slip as I would have thought, but this helped it sit better on my lips and have better longevity. It had rich color coverage that adhered somewhat evenly to my lips and seemed to fill in a few of my lip lines but didn’t smooth them all out. It lasted well for four hours and felt hydrating while worn.

To Die For

Tom Ford Beauty To Die For Satin Matte Lip ColorTom Ford Beauty To Die For Satin Matte Lip Color ($56.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a vivid, medium-dark pink-coral with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had just a subtle sheen that was quick to wear down to a soft matte finish within an hour.

The texture was smooth, velvety, and lightweight that was also thin, though not clingy, but it wasn’t the most flattering to wear as it settled a bit into my lip lines and wasn’t forgiving of imperfections in texture. It had semi-opaque color payoff that lasted for four hours and felt non-drying.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$56.00/0.11 oz. - $509.09 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "full-coverage" in a "single stroke" that is "lightweight" and "long-wearing" that helps to smooth and keep lips hydrated over time. What sets this formula apart from other Tom Ford Lip Colors is the texture: it's velvety, smooth, and waxier without being heavy--it glided on easily but did not feel wet or traditionally creamy. It was very lightweight, comfortable to wear, and some shades definitely helped minimize my lip lines. They wore between four and six hours on me, and they were lightly to moderately moisturizing. They had a faint vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Happiberry

Charlotte Tilbury Happiberry Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Happiberry Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, reddish-plum with strong, warm undertones and a high-shine cream finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which was more pigmentation than marketed, but likely not a deal-breaker for most.

The texture was denser, thicker without being heavy or tacky, so it had good adhesion and didn’t slide around, but it felt thicker than most lip product son the market. The product applied evenly and didn’t look streaky along the edges. It lasted nicely for four and a half hours and felt hydrating over time.

Pillow Talk

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a muted, rosy mauve with warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy cream finish. The texture was smooth, moderately dense and thicker, though not heavy.

It was easy to over-apply product, so I’d definitely work slowly and avoid building up coverage. It had opaque color coverage, which was more than marketed, but it applied evenly over my lips and softened some of my lip lines. It wore well for four hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

Like Magic

ColourPop Like Magic Lippie Stix ($7.00 for 0.0352 oz.) is a darker, slightly rose-toned beige with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was moderately dense with light creaminess–it felt better as it warmed up against my lips, as it was a little stiff initially–and felt a little tacky when worn. It had opaque pigmentation that lasted well for five hours and felt non-drying.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$7.00/0.0352 oz. - $198.86 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "full coverage" with a "long-wearing, ultra comfortable" feel. Because there are quite a few finishes in the range, some of the results depend more on the finish.

The matte finish tends to be thinner, drier, and firmer in the tube, and they can, occasionally, tug on my lips noticeably during application, but usually have good pigmentation and long wear; they range from non-drying to somewhat drying.

The Creme finish has a creamier, more emollient quality to it that has excellent pigmentation, comfortable wear, and good wear time (four to six hours); it tends to be a little hydrating but occasionally suffers from issues where product gathers in lip lines or they don't go on as evenly as they could. There's a soft, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Pitch

ColourPop Pitch Lippie Stix ($7.00 for 0.0352 oz.) is a deep, muted brown with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had a light creaminess to it, which helped it apply evenly and smoothly to my lips with just a little bit of tugging during application.

This formula is denser with some tackiness, which helps to make it longer-wearing (while being comfortable) but does have less creaminess than most traditional lipsticks have. It had opaque color payoff that applied evenly and stayed on nicely for five hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Happipeach

Charlotte Tilbury Happipeach Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Happipeach Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a brighter, muted medium orange with strong, warm undertones and a high-shine, cream finish. The texture was moderately dense, slightly thicker than I’ve come across in most lipstick formulas, and felt like it melted against the warmth of my lips.

It had nearly opaque pigmentation, which was more than marketed, that applied evenly over my lips but had a touch of product that settled into my lip lines. Thankfully, the settling wasn’t noticeable in person. This shade stayed on nicely for four hours and felt hydrating over time.

I'm guessing that the more balm-like formula needed that type of mechanism in order not to break at the base.

Romance Kiss

Charlotte Tilbury Romance Kiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour BalmCharlotte Tilbury Romance Kiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark coral with strong, warm orange undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had a vinyl-like shine, which was the standout feature of the formula. It was intensely pigmented with nearly full coverage in a single layer, rather than the medium coverage described by the brand.

The consistency was thicker, denser, though it didn’t feel particularly heavy to me and wasn’t tacky, but it was thicker than most products on the market. The color applied evenly to my lips, and the formula seemed to smooth out my lip lines for the most part. It lasted well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Galore

ColourPop Galore Lippie Stix ($7.00 for 0.0352 oz.) is a deep berry with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth consistency that was moderately dense and lightly tacky, so it tugged slightly during application but had great adhesion. The product sat well on my lips, didn’t feather or migrate over time, and stayed on well for over six hours for a non-drying feel.

I Heart This

ColourPop I Heart This Lippie Stix ($7.00 for 0.0352 oz.) is a bright, darker fuchsia with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a moderately dense texture that felt lightly tacky on my lips but didn’t feel clingy. The lipstick tugged a little as I applied it to my lips, so shorter strokes were best. This shade lasted nicely for over six hours, left a stain behind, and felt neither drying nor hydrating.

Estee Lauder Born Flirt (901) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a light, muted brown with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. The texture was slightly thicker and less emollient compared to most shades in the range, which gave it better adhesion, though it didn’t look as luminous on. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single pass, which was more coverage than marketed. This shade stayed on nicely for four hours and felt hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$32.00/0.06 oz. - $533.33 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "sheer to medium, buildable" coverage with "hydrating shine" while helping to "reduce fine, dry lines and lip flakiness." The majority of the shades had more medium, buildable coverage that could be built up to nearly opaque coverage.

The lighter shades were the least forgiving and sometimes emphasized or gathered around lip lines and lip texture, while mid-tone and deeper shades often applied beautifully with even coverage and in a way that made my lips appear smoother and plusher. The consistency was lightweight with moderate slip and felt like a lipstick-lip balm hybrid as a result, and the finish was glossier and more luminous (without being overtly shimmery/pearly).

They were comfortable and hydrating to wear, though they were shorter-wearing due to the amount of slip, so most shades wore for three hours with a few of the richer and deeper shades lasting almost five hours on me. They had a sweet, vanilla-like scent but no discernible taste.

Profound (902)

Estee Lauder Profound (902) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, light-medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff–higher coverage than expected–that adhered evenly to my lips and didn’t drag during application.

The consistency felt lightweight, smooth, and creamy with moderate slip and wasn’t too thick. It wore well for four hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

Imaginary (903)

Estee Lauder Imaginary (903) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a light, peachy coral with strong, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had a lightweight, almost balm-like consistency with moderate slip and creaminess.

The lipstick applied comfortably over my lips, but it had enough slip that it settled into my lip lines and wasn’t as forgiving of lip texture as other shades in the range. It had medium, buildable pigmentation, which was slightly more pigmentation that marketed. It lasted well for three hours and felt hydrating over time.

Turn to the Left

MAC Turn to the Left Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deeper, reddish-brown with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had more slip than most shades in the range, which gave it a slightly shinier finish that wore down to semi-matte after an hour or two of wear.

It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied fairly evenly but settled noticeably into my lip lines. I also had issues with the product clumping up a little in places (see my bottom lip around the edge). It lasted for four and a half hours and felt non-drying.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$21.00/0.1 oz. - $210.00 Per Ounce

MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is supposed to feel "weightless" with a "blur of effortless soft-focus color." Per the brand, the formula "provides immediate and long-term hydration" while "blur[ring] lines and smooth[ing] lips" and having "zero-shine." They have a bit of shine and slip; I wouldn't call them zero-shine so much as very smooth and more like a natural or soft matte finish. Like any finish with slight shine, they did wear down to a more, flat matte finish within an hour or so of wear. The consistency was lightweight, thin, and velvety with a bit of slip (a little like a silicone primer to me) and was comfortable to wear with a non-drying to lightly hydrating feel.

The pigmentation ranged from semi-opaque to opaque with deeper shades having more coverage. There were a few very light shades, which did not apply as evenly and had a tendency to catch on any imperfections on my lips, whereas the deeper shades went on more smoothly and looked more flattering on as they were less likely to emphasize texture. They lasted between two and a half and six hours with deeper shades, unsurprisingly, lasting longer than the ultra-light ones.

I personally found the scent of these to be noticeably different, both that it was sweeter and less vanilla-based but I also got a strong rubber scent that came through. The scent did not linger for long, so it wasn't something that I detected throughout the wear, but it had a strong, sweet taste that was present until it was gone. Other readers who have smelled the formula in person did not catch any rubber/off-putting scent (my husband thought it smelled weird, not bad per se, but couldn't be more specific), and when I went back to double check each shade, each one of mine still had that rubbery note.

Dubonnet Buzz

MAC Dubonnet Buzz Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deep, coppery-red with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that glided readily over my lips and delivered even, lightweight coverage. The product didn’t tug on my lips during application, and it didn’t settle into my lip lines or emphasize lip texture. It stayed on nicely for five hours and felt non-drying.

Kinda Soar-ta

MAC Kinda Soar-ta Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a darker, rosy mauve with soft, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that adhered evenly and smoothly across my lips. This was one of the more flattering shades I’ve worn within the formula as it actually softened a lot of my lip lines.

The consistency was thin, lightweight, and had a more velvety glide, which made it comfortable to wear and to apply. It lasted well for four hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Marrakesh-mere

MAC Marrakesh-mere Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark copper with warm, red-brown undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which didn’t build up much beyond that.

The texture felt lightweight, thin, and more velvety with good glide but didn’t feel slippery or particularly emollient on, so it didn’t slide around during wear. There was a smidgen of product that settled into my deeper lip lines in the close-up photo but wasn’t enough to be visible in person. It stayed on nicely for four hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating.

MAC You’re Buggin’, Lady Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, dark orange-coral with a mostly matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a smooth, lightweight consistency that was thin and more velvety but not too clingy.

It went on evenly and just barely emphasized my natural lip texture in the close-up photo but looked smooth in person. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt non-drying.

Haute Pants

MAC Haute Pants Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a bright, medium red with strong, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was so cool-toned that it looked like a pinky-red.

The texture was smooth, velvety, and mousse-like, which helped it spread easily over my lips; it seemed slightly thinner compared to other shades in the range, which helped give it less of shine initially. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that stayed on nicely for six hours and left a stain behind, while the formula felt lightly moisturizing over time.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$24.00/0.17 oz. - $141.18 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be long-wearing ("10 hours'") with "immediate" moisture while "[blurring] lines and [smoothing] lips" that doesn't settle, crease, flake, or feel drying. Per the brand, one applies using the "hourglass-shaped applicator."

The texture has a more velvety, thicker feel that spreads well and feels plusher with more of a silicone-like glide (if you've tried a silicone-based primer, the feel of it on the lips was similar but creamier). The applicator worked well for applying and distributing product evenly, but it gathered more product than necessary for my lips in a single pull of product to the point where I felt like it over-applied product to the detriment of application.

I had better luck applying product my upper lip (especially around the cupid's bow, as the applicator was better for getting this area) and then pressing my lips together and/or using a fingertip to diffuse and spread out the product to the rest of my lips. This ensured that there wasn't too much product on my lips; too much resulted in the product pilling a bit and being uneven, especially along the inner area of my month, prone to getting on teeth, and sometimes catching on lip texture/imperfections. For reference: all swatch photos are as-applied with the included applicator only.

They were pigmented with most shades being nearly opaque to opaque but a few that fell slightly below. For a more diffused look, you'd want to apply with fingertips or just to the center of the lips and then use a brush or fingertips to blow out the color. The colors went on fairly evenly, and I found most of the time where it did not, it was an issue with an over-application of product (despite just using one pull of product!) and the formula was more forgiving when applied with less product (but that still was plenty to cover my lips with near-full coverage!).

They mattify over time--as the color wore away--and are more transfer-resistant at that point, but the formula itself is a more flexible, though I could definitely feel it on, and has a more satin-like finish for the first couple of hours of wear. I'd recommend blotting gently on the back of your hand (less likely to get tissue bits on your lips that way) to soften and mattify faster, if desired.

The lighter shades didn't wear away as evenly and had more noticeable wear along the center of my lips, while the more mid-tone and deeper shades lasted longer and more evenly as they tended to stain a bit. The wear ranged from five to eight hours, but the formula wasn't providing any "immediate" moisture for me, and after wearing a lot of shades back-to-back, my lips were slightly dehydrated.

Fashion, Sweetie

MAC Fashion, Sweetie Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a deep red with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer of product–more product than I needed was on the applicator, actually–that applied evenly.

The texture was lightweight, like a velvety-cream that felt airy and mousse-like as it spread well over my lips. It wore down to a more matte finish within two hours of wear (or could be blotted gently) and lasted for five and a half hours (but not 10 hours as claimed). The formula felt lightly hydrating over time.

Teddy 2.0

MAC Teddy 2.0 Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a darker, peachyb eige with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that adhered well to my lips and glided across them smoothing as the texture was lightweight, thin, and velvety.

The lipstick sat decently on my lips but was a little more prone to emphasizing my natural lip texture, so you’ll definitely want to ensure you’ve properly exfoliated and I’d skip this shade if you have naturally drier lips (with cracking, flaking, or peeling). It wore decently for three hours and felt non-drying.

Sheer Outrage

MAC Sheer Outrage Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a light-medium pink-coral with moderate, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had medium to semi-opaque color payoff that applied without streaking, but the texture was more prone to pilling and looked almost “crumbly” on my lips.

There was also some product that pulled into my lip lines, which became more apparent over time (in person). The lipstick felt lightweight, thin, and more velvety, much like other shades in the formula, but the way it sat on my lips was unflattering. This shade lasted for three and a half hours on me and felt neither drying nor hydrating.

Brickthrough

MAC Brickthrough Powder Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium coral with moderate, warm undertones and leaned just barely pink paired with a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in one layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without emphasizing my natural texture.

The lipstick felt lightweight, thin, and velvety without being too clingy, though there was the smallest amount of product visible in my deeper lip lines in the photos, I didn’t notice it in person. It stayed on well for four hours and felt non-drying.

Genius (913)

Estee Lauder Genius (913) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, lighter red with subtle, warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had medium pigmentation in one layer, which could be built up to semi-opaque coverage with a second layer.

The texture was moderately emollient, creamy, and more balm-like, which made it comfortable to apply and to wear. Thankfully, it didn’t settle noticeably into my lip lines and gave my lips a smoother, plusher look. It wore well for four hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

Unpredictable (914)

Estee Lauder Unpredictable (914) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark red with warm, orange undertones and a luminous sheen. The texture was lightweight, creamy, and smooth with moderate slip, which helped it glide readily over my lips but it felt a little balm-like and less lipstick-like as it didn’t adhere as strongly.

It had semi-opaque color payoff that could be layered for full opacity, though this was more pigmentation than marketed. It lasted nicely for four and a half hours and felt hydrating over time.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

Light Heart (917)

Estee Lauder Light Heart (917) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with strong, warm orange undertones and a cream finish. This shade wasn’t quite as glossy in its finish as most shades in the range. The texture was lightweight, creamy, and smooth, which helped it apply comfortably across my lips without dragging.

It yielded nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, rather than the sheer coverage marketed, but those who don’t mind the boost in coverage likely will enjoy this shade. The color stayed on well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

MAC Marrakesh-mere & Fashion Emergency Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolours Reviews & Swatches

Marrakesh-mere

MAC Marrakesh-mere Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium, coppery-brown with warmer undertones and a satin finish. The liquid lipstick delivered full coverage in a single layer of product, which applied evenly and sat well on my lips.

The consistency felt lightweight, mousse-like with an airy, more whipped texture that was velvety and not overly emollient. It stayed on nicely for five hours and felt lightly hydrating over time, though it did not meet the 10-hour wear claim.

Fashion Emergency

MAC Fashion Emergency Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark plum with warmer undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied comfortably across my lips as the texture was lightweight, mousse-like, and spreadable without emphasizing my lip texture or settling noticeably into my lip lines. It wore well for five hours but did not make it anywhere near 10 hours of wear, though the formula was lightly moisturizing to wear.

Pampered (918)

Estee Lauder Pampered (918) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium, rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in one layer, which built up to full coverage with a second layer.

The lipstick had a smooth, creamy consistency that had moderate slip and felt slightly balm-like as a result. It applied evenly to my lips with a smidgen of product that settled into my deeper lip lines that was visible in the close-up photo but not in person. This shade stayed on well for four hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

Social Butterfly (920)

Estee Lauder Social Butterfly (920) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation (to medium) with a moderately emollient consistency that felt lightweight, creamy, and smooth.

It could have applied more evenly, though, and I did find that there was a bit of product that settled into my lip lines over time. It wore well for four hours and felt hydrating over time.

Persuasive (333)

Estee Lauder Persuasive (333) Pure Color Illuminating Shine ($32.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medidum-dark, reddish-copper with moderate, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was far more coverage than marketed (“sheer”), which was why the rating tanked, so if you’re someone who prefers higher coverage, then it’s really a win.

The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and creamy with moderate slip, but it didn’t slide around so much that it was difficult to wear. The product didn’t settle into my lip lines and gave them a smoother appearance overall. It lasted nicely for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

Bloombox

MAC Bloombox Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones–balanced between pink and orange–paired with a semi-matte finish. It had opaque color coverage but had a tendency to separate/pull away from my lip lines, so it appeared a little patchy in places.

The consistency was moderately dense, slightly thicker (which I expect was why it didn’t sit as smoothly on my lips), but smooth and comfortable to apply. It stayed on well for five and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$20.00/0.1 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Dramarama

MAC Dramarama Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a vivid, neon pink with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single stroke, which could be built up to full coverage with a little more layered as needed. The product applied fairly evenly but was prone to separating and settling into my lip lines, and there was a little streakiness along the edges.

The lipstick had a denser, thicker consistency that felt smooth and velvety, so it was comfortable to apply in a fluid stroke, but it was less forgiving of lip texture and imperfections. It wore nicely for five hours, left a stain behind, and felt non-drying.

Moody Bloom

MAC Moody Bloom Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deeper red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was moderately dense but not too thick or too thin, so it had good adhesion but was a little more forgiving of lip texture and any imperfections associated with it. It lasted well for six hours, left a stain behind, and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

MAC Ferosh & Impulsive Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolours Reviews & Swatches

Ferosh!

MAC Ferosh! Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a lighter mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. The texture was lightweight, mousse-like, and spreadable with a velvety glide that had light slip but didn’t slide around during wear. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly, though a smidgen sat in my deeper lip lines in the close-up photos but wasn’t visible in person. The color lasted well for four and a half hours–which was quite far from the 10 hours claimed–and felt lightly hydrating while worn.

Impulsive

MAC Impulsive Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a light-medium brown with strong, warm yellowish undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly across my lips and wasn’t prone to emphasizing my natural lip texture. The consistency was lightweight, thin, and spreadable with a more whipped, mousse-like feel. It stayed on nicely for four and a half hours and was non-drying, but the formula claimed 10 hours of wear (sigh!).
