Twitch

Urban Decay Twitch Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a slightly bright, medium-dark purple with cooler undertones and very, very fine pearl. I wouldn’t describe the finish as metallic or even pearly, but there was a subtle sheen. The consistency was thinner, not really watery but could have more substance to it, and it applied fairly evenly. It had semi-opaque pigmentation but a second layer would be needed for full coverage. This shade did seem to pull into my lip lines and appear “cracked” as I smiled. It lasted for five hours before flaking off and fading strongly from the center of the mouth, though it was non-drying.

The Vice Liquid Lipstick formula is supposed to be “intensely pigmented” with “complete coverage in one coat” and “nondrying wear” that is “comfortable” and “waterproof.” The majority of the Metallized shades are not even close to one-coat coverage–maybe three or four or coats!–and did not layer evenly, plus they had a tendency to lose sparkle/glitter through wear. Whenever a shade wasn’t opaque in one coat, it often looked streaky or uneven. There were some shades that had fantastic, one-coat coverage, while others featured more medium, buildable coverage but several applied uneven, patchy, and didn’t level or improve after drying down even with a second layer.

The consistency of the formula was smooth, lightweight, and comfortable to apply, but the dry down was lengthy and some shades never fully felt dry (instead, lightly tacky). There was a learning curve to applying and wearing these, too, as they were unforgiving if you accidentally press your lips together before the formula has dried down–the formula is quite tacky as it dries down and pressed lips together results in color lifting away. The wear varied from shade to shade (and between finishes) from four to eight hours, and so far, most were true to the nondrying claim, at least. I didn’t notice any scent or taste with them. They were difficult to remove compared to most products; I had the best luck saturating a cotton pad with eye or lip makeup remover (Neutrogena, Lancome, Shiseido, etc.), yet curiously were not that long-wearing on me (relative to liquid lipsticks)–they seemed to develop a little tackiness with any meal or drink (even just water) and degraded from there. Overall, the formula was extremely disappointing after the successful Vice lipstick launch last year.

Mad

Urban Decay Mad Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark purple with warm, pink undertones and flecks of fuchsia and violet sparkle. It had semi-sheer coverage that applied unevenly and looked patchy on the lips. A second layer, unfortunately, looked clumpy in places, though it certainly added coverage–but the second layer must be done after the first one is completely dry or else it just moves the color around and makes it clump up. The color lasted four and a half hours before noticeable color and glitter started to flake away, and it also looked uneven as it faded (which may have been due to the uneven application in general). The formula did seem non-drying to me.

Pandemonium

Urban Decay Pandemonium Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a dark purple with subtle, warm pink undertones and a satin sheen. This was one of those shades that never fully dried down on me, so it took hours before it was really a true matte. It dried down mostly after four minutes, where it was still tacky but did not lift color away if I pressed my lips together. The consistency felt very smooth, almost creamy, but it was still on the thinner side. It had good coverage, but it did not apply that evenly. This shade wore well for six hours, left a stain behind, and faded fairly evenly. The formula felt non-drying to me.
