Tarte Limitless Lippies Tarteist Creamy Lip Paint Set ($42.00 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a set of eight miniature sized Lip Paints, which are like a liquid lipstick that doesn’t quite dry down and has more of a velvety finish–more like a satin than a matte. The formula is supposed to be “ultra-pigmented,” “non-drying,” and long-wearing. In my experience, this formula never fully dries down, but they are more comfortable to wear as they are not as drying as traditional liquid lipstick; they have a tendency to get more and more matte as the color wears down, but it is a rather pigmented product that it still lasted for four to seven hours on me. The formula has a mint scent but no taste to me.

I was really surprised–really, shocked–at the absence of value in this kit, because of all things Tarte does… is put out value-packed kits and palettes. If you’re someone who doesn’t care about the amount of product in a tube but prefers more variety in color, then there may still be value to you, as you’ll get eight shades for a little more than the cost of two full-sized products. I also found that the applicator of the minis to be rougher and less well-made, so they felt scratchy when used on the lips. As far as quality of the shades went, they were good overall, and I hope Tarte will add some of these to their existing range.

Candy is a medium-dark, peachy-brown with strong, warm orange undertones and a satin sheen. It opaque color coverage, but the thinner, more watery consistency gravitated toward my lip lines. It was easy to apply, and the coverage was even, though. On me, the color wore well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Honey is a muted, medium-dark rosy mauve with neutral-to-warm undertones and a natural sheen. The texture was thinner with a more watery feel going on, though it “dried” down to something that didn’t slide around as much after about thirty minutes of wear. It had excellent pigmentation, but the color did sink into lip lines, which became more noticeable after two hours of wear. Latte is a deep, caramelized brown with warm, red-orange undertones and a natural sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The consistency was thicker than the previous two and more consistent with the formula as a whole. The color spread well across the lips and didn’t appear streaky. I found the texture to still emphasize lip lines just a touch, though it wasn’t too noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The consistency was light-to-medium in weight, emollient initially but dried to a more velvety feel on the lips.
