Dior Tender Matte (340) Rouge Dior Lipstick
Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) was recently relaunched, and part of the range now includes several matte shades. On top of the permanent range of 50 shades, the brand also released a few limited edition, pastel shades. They sold quite quickly through Dior’s website, but I found them on Selfridge’s and bought them. Only one of the four shades below performed decently when compared to what you’d want in a typical lipstick, but like something out of a fantasy novel, Dior says that the formula “provides 16 [hours] of comfort with no dry lips or colour streaking.” The formula is also supposed to be pigmented and hydrating. I did not get anywhere near 16 hours of wear with any of the four shades, unfortunately! The pigmentation varied from semi-opaque to mostly opaque, but the texture was unforgiving and prone to catching on any and every imperfection along with settling into lip lines.
Dior Tender Matte (340) Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium peachy-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff, but the texture emphasized lip lines and imperfections, while color gathered in my lip lines as well. There was some slip, so it didn’t drag or feel uncomfortable to apply or to wear, but it lasted for three and a half hours on me. It was neither drying nor hydrating on me. Urban Decay Unicorn (P, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). Kat Von D Noble (P, $21.00) is lighter, less glossy (95% similar). Maybelline Barely Bloomed (700) (P, $7.49) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Pout (142) (LE, $30.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Milani Adore (LE, $8.99) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC Close Contact (LE, $17.00) is warmer (90% similar). Sephora Peach Tart (LE, $14.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Antonio's Girls (LE, $17.00) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Namaste (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Pure Hollywood (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Givenchy Beige Plume (102) (P, $36.00) is darker (80% similar). Tom Ford Beauty First Time (09) (LE, $50.00) is darker (80% similar). Bite Beauty Amaretto (P, $24.00) is darker (80% similar). Bite Beauty Leche (P, $24.00) is darker (80% similar). Colour Pop Button (P, $5.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Dior Cloudy Matte (380) Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium lavender with cool undertones and a natural finish. It had good color coverage, which applied fairly evenly, but some of the color pulled into lip lines due to a more emollient consistency of the formula. I would not call this matte, as there was a definite shine to it. The color lasted for four and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. This was the best of the Pastel Mattes, as it had the most even coverage; the cooler undertone of it made it harder to dupe. NYX Lavender (P, $6.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). Kat Von D Coven (P, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Love & Cherished (P, $17.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Make Up For Ever C502 (P, $22.00) is darker, more muted (80% similar). MAC Galaxy Grey (LE, $21.00) is darker, more muted (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Dior Sunny Matte (610) Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, sunshine yellow with strong, warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had medium color coverage, and like Clover Matte, was streaky, uneven, and emphasized every lip line and imperfection I had on my lips. It was moderately slippery, so it moved around a lot on the lips, and the photo is of the best case scenario but the moment I pressed my lips together, it fell apart. The color wore for four and a half hours and was non-drying. MAC Gold Xixi (P, $17.00) is more muted, glossier (90% similar). NYX Citron (P, $6.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Dior Clover Matte (400) Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium green with cooler undertones and a natural sheen. It had medium coverage with a moderately slippery texture–and that showed heavily in the application, as the color found its way into every lip line and crevice on my lips. It was streaky, uneven, and unforgiving. The color wore for four hours and left a bluish stain behind, and it was non-drying. Make Up For Ever C601 (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter, better quality (95% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Cosplay (P, $18.00) is darker, better quality, glossier (85% similar). Colour Pop Charm (P, $5.00) is lighter, warmer, better quality (85% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Whatever (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Kat Von D Plan 9 (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer, better quality (80% similar). NYX Risque (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar).
