OCC Kelly Lip Tar/RTW
OCC Soy Latte Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium brown with subtle, warmer undertones and a creamy finish. It was really, really pigmented, and I would recommend still using a lip brush to apply with smoother, more even coverage than using the doe-foot as this one seemed a little thick, but slippery. The color wore well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Styled in Sepia (LE, $17.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Self-Aware (LE, $17.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Touch the Earth (LE, $23.00) is lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
OCC Poseur Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium pinky-lavender with gray overtones and a subtle, cooler undertone paired with a cream finish. The texture was lightweight and spreadable across the lips without issue, but the color wasn’t quite as opaque as I am used to with the Lip Tar formula–but it’s pretty opaque, still. The color lasted for five hours and faded evenly while the formula was neither drying nor hydrating over time. MAC Lavender Whip (LE, $17.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty #005 (LE, $36.00) is less pigmented (90% similar). NYX Playdate (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Bite Beauty Thistle (P, $26.00) is darker (80% similar). OCC Kelly Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a lightweight texture that applied evenly on the lips. Some of the color gathered in my lip lines (especially on the bottom lip), but it wasn’t too noticeable from a normal viewing distance–I think the general brightness and glossiness of the finish helped camouflage it. This shade lasted for four and a half hours on me and was neither hydrating nor drying. Tom Ford Beauty Ansel (P, $35.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Have We Met? (108) (DC, $30.00) is less shimmery, more muted, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Lip Blossom (P, $17.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Chanel Roussy (426) (P, $37.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Phosphorescent (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Spring Pink (P, $35.00) is less shimmery, cooler, less glossy (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | OCC Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a long-wearing, pigmented liquid lipstick. The formula is light-to-medium in weight with some shades with a thinner or thicker consistency. As you might expect, the thinner ones tend to have sheerer coverage, though the average Lip Tar is semi-opaque to intensely opaque (like the smallest amount is needed to get opaque coverage). The Metallic shades tend to be thinner and have more slip compared to the cream ones. The formula is sometimes drying, sometimes just not drying. The formula is mint-scented but has no discernible taste. The new Lip Tar/RTW comes with a doe-foot applicator, which makes it easier to apply from the tube than the original Lip Tars.
