NARS Chaos Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Duo ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) includes two full-sized jumbo-sized lip pencils in dusty coral and deep berry hues. Depending on one’s tolerance for slightly non-drying to slightly drying products, the set may or may not be worth putting on the wish list. I think that these two are not the best of the brand’s formula, though they are not the worst.

Decibel is a muted, medium dusty, pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly across my lips, but it separated a bit along my deeper lip lines. The texture was smooth and velvety, so it was comfortable to apply and glided across my lips, but there was a powderiness present to the finish that gave it a more textured, though matte, finish on my lips. It wore well for three hours and was non-drying.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to be “long-lasting” with “rich” and “seamless color.” The texture has a more velvety feel: smooth, thinner but glides on easily, and doesn’t have a lot of wetness/creaminess. The pigmentation varied from shade to shade with most shades having semi-opaque coverage. They were easy to apply along the lips and comfortable to apply, as they did not tug. The formula lasted anywhere from three hours to six hours, and some shades were somewhat drying and others were non-drying.
