Lustrous
Make Up For Ever Lustrous Artist Rouge Lipstick Set ($35.00 for 0.16 oz.) is new, limited edition set for the holidays that features four miniature-sized lipsticks from the brand’s permanent offerings. The first downside was that C211 looked little like the permanent version I have–in depth but also strongly differed in undertone. Color discrepancies are frustrating, since one might fall in love with the shade but upon a repurchase, discover it has changed. Three of the four shades were quite pigmented with all wearing at least four hours, but two were slightly drying (both mattes) and one could have been more pigmented (C407).
Value
A full-sized Artist Rouge Lipstick retails for $22.00 and contains 0.12 oz. or costs $183.33/oz. The set contains $29.33 worth of product, which was a bit surprising–would have figured it to have a $30 price tag in that instance.

Limited Edition

M100
M100 is a muted, light-medium peach with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency had a velvety feel, so it did not drag on my lips at all, though it had a drier look on the lips. It actually applied a bit better than the full-sized tube I have, but it had a similar drier appearance on the lips. The color stayed on well for four hours and was slightly drying.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.12 oz. - $183.33 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be long-wearing, “extremely pigmented,” and hydrating. It is available in two finishes–Cream and Matte, indicated by the C or M in the beginning of each shade’s name. The Cream formula is richly pigmented, lightly creamy without being too emollient or slippery, and go on smoothly and feel good while worn (wear ranges from four to eight hours, depending on the shade).
The Matte formula is thinner and clings somewhat to lips, though it goes on nicely and doesn’t tug, and it doesn’t always look flattering on as it can emphasize imperfections on my lips but really depends on the shade, as some look great on. I found the Cream formula to be moderately hydrating, while the Matte formula was slightly to moderately drying. All shades had a slight, rosy scent to them, though I didn’t notice any taste.

Permanent

C211 (Holiday 2017)
C211 (Holiday 2017) is a medium-dark mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a cream finish. It was richly pigmented with a creamy, smooth consistency that glided across the lips easily and was comfortable to wear. The color applied evenly and lasted for five hours on me with a lightly hydrating formula. It did, however, differ dramatically enough from the permanent version that I had to label them separately as their respective Dupe Lists wouldn’t make sense!

Permanent

M401
M401 is a rich, medium-dark red with strong, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with half of a layer on top. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and sat well on the lips despite being thinner overall. The color was still going strong after six hours of wear, and it left a moderate stain behind. The formula felt a touch drying to me.

C407
C407 is a deep burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly on the lips, though there was a bit of color that settled into my lip lines. The consistency had moderate slip and felt more slippery when worn, and while I did not personally experience feathering, it had that feel that would make me concerned about feathering for someone who was more prone to it. The color wore well for five hours and was hydrating over time. It was less pigmented than the full-sized tube I have.
