Iconic

Ciate Iconic Glitter Flip ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep black with cooler, purple sparkle and shimmer. It was quite pigmented in a single layer, but it was so, so unforgiving when I pressed my lips together (after waiting two minutes for it to dry), as the color just lifted up so much–it went from opaque to sheer in places and looked very patchy! I tried again, waiting five minutes, and it was somewhat better, but for me, I could never get it to be opaque after pressing my lips together. The best luck I had was applying less and having semi-opaque coverage, and that seemed to help it dry down better and more thoroughly, but it was still patchy as a result (due to the lack of opacity).

The texture was very fluid, too easy to spread across the lips, and it had a tendency to pool along the edges. It lasted for four hours but faded away unevenly and chunks of black were constantly coming off and sitting on my teeth. The formula was slightly drying as well.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.10 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce

The Glitter Flip formula is supposed to be a transformative "glitter liquid lipstick," where it goes from lightly metallic at dry down to glitter-tastic after pressing lips together. For most shades, there was a definite difference in finish after pressing lips together, but I found that it required two to three presses (and too many more resulted in product lifting away) for moderate to heavy glitter exposure. The pigmentation ranged from shade to shade but was typically more opaque than not. The formula itself is heavy--one of the heavier liquid lipsticks I've tried in awhile--and the liquid lipstick itself was incredibly fluid during application, which made it harder to control along the edges. It dried down fairly quickly, and while the edges were a challenge, it wasn't too difficult to apply overall.

The brand touts it as "non-drying" and "totally comfortable" and that it "will last all night." It was a drying formula--from lightly to moderately drying--and felt dry and heavy on the lips (I think it felt worse than it often looked!), while the wear ranged from four to six hours. The way it wore was probably a bigger concern: heavier fading from the center of the mouth but noticeable flaking and chunks of color/glitter coming away after a few hours of wear (especially if I ate anything).

It's a cool product, and absolutely true that they were less work than layering a glitter over another a product, especially if you prefer a more "matte metallic" finish (would be harder to get glitter to stick to a flat, matte lipstick!). I think they will be best for someone who uses a lip liner prior, doesn't mind fussing with the edges, and has been longing for a finish like this--but only if one can tolerate a drying product!

Forbidden

Ciate Forbidden Glitter Flip ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium-dark burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a glittering finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer that applied decently but could have been more even, less patchy, and not pull into lip lines. The texture was very fluid, and it was the hardest to apply out of all shades, as it constantly shifted beyond the edges and dried down so fast that it dried down unevenly as I tried to fix the edges.

After the dry down, I pressed my l ips together and got a moderate amount of glitter to come forth, so there was a definite transformation. It lasted for five and a half hours but had a tendency to flake away as it wore down and was drying.

Siren

Ciate Siren Glitter Flip ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a dark, bluish teal with cool undertones and a glittery finish. It had rich, opaque pigmentation with a smooth, fluid consistency that could have been a little easier to control and work with. It was almost as if the applicator contained double the amount of product one needed for a single layer of product, which added to the difficulty in application. The dry down was quick and felt heavier and clingire on the lips, so it was not particularly comfortable to wear–I was keenly aware that I had something new and different on my lips at all time (and I have worn a LOT! of lip formulas so my lips aren’t as sensitive to weight!).

This one went from faint sheen to metallic and sparkling after I pressed my lips together with only a smidgen of lifting overall, though if I did too many presses (five or more), it did start to crumble and flake away. The flaking was a continuous issue I faced while I wore it, though it was not the worst in the bunch for that offense. This shade lasted for five and a half hours and was drying.
