Kat Von D Sbockful Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a rich, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and lighter fuchsiaand pink shimmer and sparkle. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly across the lips, and the shimmer/sparkle distributed well without a fuss. The texture was lightweight, thin, and on the watery side, but it dried down and looked great on the lips. Despite having a full dry down, where it became transfer-resistant, it still looked “wet” from the shine and sparkle. The formula started to breakdown after I ate or drink, which really weakened the longevity of the color, especially as water made the stain base transfer. On me, the color lasted for a good ten hours before it needed a reapplication, and it was just a bit drying overall. The fuchsia stain lingered longer, though it was mostly even after I made my attempt to removal the color but lasted well into the next day.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have “24-hour wear” with a “liquid stain base” that “feels like nothing” on the lips that can be worn “on its own” or layered “as a veil” over another lip color. There’s a lot to like about the formula, and I think as far as the concept of “lip toppers” go, it offers the versatility of actually being easy enough to apply to wear on its own but still be useful layered over other products for a shimmering effect. The doe-foot applicator worked well with the formula, as it spread the color and sparkly bits across the lips quite evenly. The coverage ranged from shade to shade with most having medium, buildable coverage in a single layer, which was in line with the description. They dried down and were transfer-resistant (until eating/drinking/licking of lips) but still had a great shimmering effect that made them look wet, even when they dried. They were more comfortable to wear than I anticipated–lightweight and just a little drying.

One of the bigger downsides is that it’s not going to wear 24 hours. Just about every single shade (all but Thunderstruck) stained my lips intensely, which helped prolong the wear, but the product breaks down with water, just plain water, and of course, it is removable by a slew of removers, including oil which one might encounter during a meal. I found deeper shades stained well but removed unevenly and left behind stained lines and patches on my lips that did not dissipate for almost 24-hours post wear. I didn’t notice that the lip color did not take well to water initially, as I didn’t see any transfer on my glasses, but when I rinsed after I brushed my teeth (where I cup water in my hands, so less elegant than drinking from a glass), I had lip color running like crazy.

This led me to pay even more attention the next time I wore the formula, and sure enough, color lifted with just a sip of water and transferred onto things like paper (but not glassware) and the back of my hand. Some shades made it through meals better than others with the worst offenders lifting more noticeably from the center of the lips. The formula survives some eating and drinking, but the more you drink, the less it survives, and even careful eating/drinking yielded noticeably faded wear between eight and twelve hours of wear. I don’t think a brand would advocate 24-hour wear but expect you not to eat, drink, or even brush your teeth! I would consider it long-wearing in the grand scheme of things with solid six to ten hour wear depending on the shade. They do stain significantly less when layered over something like the brand’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks but can seep through more emollient lipstick formulas.

Kat Von D Razzle Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a deep fuchsia with subtle, cool undertones and lighter fuchsia and magenta sparkle. it had semi-opaque color coverage with a very strong, fuchsia-red stain that gave the base a lot of power despite being sheerer overall. This one did stain heavily with the colorful stain lasting into the next day after removal (all of the sparkles removed immediately). The texture was smooth, thin, and lightweight with more of a watery feel as it went on, but it quickly dried down to a transfer-resistant finish–until I ate or drank. It was not waterproof, though, and the stain was more prone to running if it came into moderate contact with water (example: if I took a glass of water and dabbed my lips with a napkin, there would be transfer). The formula stood the test of time well for about ten hours before there was more obvious fading and loss of sparkle. It did not seem to be drying to me over time.

Kat Von D Televator Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a deep, royal purple with very subtle, warm pink undertones and a sparkling sheen. It might look wet in the photos, but it had actually dried down in all the photos! It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was more coverage than the brand promised, though I’m sure some will prefer it that way. For sheerer coverage, I’d recommend using less than a single layer, and if using it over another color, try patting it in a few places and then spreading/blending in with the base color. The color applied fairly evenly, but there were a few areas that seemed patchy. On me, the formula wore well for nine and a half hours and left behind a fuchsia stain, which was somewhat even after I tried removing all of the color at the end of the day, but it was noticeably uneven the next day so I’d recommend wearing another opaque lip color to hide it.
